A new Gallup poll reports that Illinois tops the list for state residents with the lowest trust in their state government:  “llinois’ position at the bottom of the list … is not surprising, given that its last two governors, Rod Blagojevich and George Ryan, were sentenced to jail for crimes committed while in office.” Here is Gallup's chart for the most and least trusted states.

MD Governor: Anthony Brown Leads Democratic Field

A new poll by the Baltimore Sun in Maryland reports that Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown holds a significant lead in the Democratic contest for governor over Douglas Gansler, 35% to 14%, with Heather Mizeur aat 10%; 40% remain undecided.

A new poll by Gonzales Research in Maryland reports that Anthony Brown leads the 2014 Democratic primary race for governor with 41%, followed by Doug Gansler at 21% and Heather Mizuer at 5%.
Gonzales Research observes: "Brown, who would be Maryland's first African-American governor, has the support of 56% of black voters, compared to 12% for Gansler. Among white voters, Brown and Gansler are in a virtual dead heat, with Brown receiving 29% and Gansler getting 28%."

President Obama's recent support of same-sex marriage appears to have swung voters in Maryland, where a marriage referendum will appear on the ballot this fall: a new survey in the state by Public Policy Polling reports a significant increase in support for same-sex marriage among African American voters following President Obama's historic announcement two weeks ago. The referendum to keep the state's new law legalizing same-sex marriage appears headed for victory,  with support now at 57% (compared to 37% against), a 12 point shift from a similar survey in early March.

A Public Policy Polling survey suggests that Mitt Romney is way head in today's Maryland GOP primary. Romney leads with 52%, followed by Rick Santorum at 27%, Newt Gingrich at 10% and Ron Paul at 9%.
